What's Up???

This time around, I wanted to take a moment to go over some growth in the company.

When I approached writing, I had always been told it was a hobby and that it wasn’t something I could ever manage as a business. I have never been one to argue with that. I know when I began the original journey, back in the day, if you wanted to get your writing career off the ground, you either needed to be into academics or very lucky to get through the gatekeepers of traditonal publishing.

Life hit me like a freight train and so my academic career got sidelined. I was taking any job I could while training in other fields for certifications. Then, after years of writing my stories and journaling my ideas, I decided to try it. There’s an entire story behind that decision, but I won’t bore you with it here. The point is, I knew from doing my research that being a professional author would not be easy. It would be a long road to travel and I would need to treat it like a business.

Here we are nearly five years in and I have grown from wanting to make money as a writer - freelancing as well as being an author, to opening my own small press. We are expanding. First I went from being a sole proprietorship as Rachel D. Adams to partnering with the hubs to create an LLC - WTC Creatives.

As an author/writer, you usually begin as a sole proprietor, because it’s a simple unincorporated business model owned by one person where there is no legal separation between the business and the person. This can be risky, but at the same time, it’s easy and less expenisive.

As we did this, I got in touch with my mini-me, who loves to write and roleplay - something that I did before moving into indie publishing. I asked if he and his friends would like to try on an anthology. We had plans for this even back in 2023!

Now that we have our press name, Arcane Realms Press, we’re going forward: We’re looking for authors and poets for our very first anthology, which we plan on releasing in Spring 2027!

The movement of objects relative to one another is TIME.

That’s the definition, but it has become so much more. It heals, yet is our enemy. Is it linear, cyclical, or simply chaos? Do you see time as moving too quickly, trudging along to torture you, or as an illusion?

Can it be manipulated? Could we bend ourselves around it to find our proper path? A path we missed? Do we use it to get the most out of life, or do we just waste it?

Welcome to Fragments Through Time, the first Arcane Realms Press Anthology.

Explore time through prose, poetry, and art. Use memories, alternate histories, ancestral roots, acceleration, repetition, regret, or ideas that only you can present. Use flashbacks or flash-forwards, micro-moments, impending deadlines, reverse chronology, circular time, or any other concept or symbol in your story that is connected to time. It can be as simple or as complicated as your imagination wants, so long as it moves our readers.

In other news…

Mama Magie Ward is once again giving us the August 80K! This is a wonderful tradition for her that she is sharing with the rest of us. You should really hear the background story for this memorial writing challenge, so I’ll link it. Once she came up with the idea, Kat Leo and several more of the Authortube crew got involved. The idea is more about setting up a good habit of writing whenever you can, instead of passing up the opportunity. However, because people are accustomed to word goals, she created a scale for everyone.

What will I be doing? My focus will be on The Mage’s Dragon, Prequel Three in The Life & Loves of a Dragon. I have 21 days in August to set the order and revise scenes that equal 90K words into a novel. I will also be sceduling Pop-Up sprints where needed and running sprints every Sunday during the month.

Y’all, I have so many ideas for the next set of articles I write for you. I’ve been trying to stay out of the AI insanity, even though I wrote an article earlier about my stance on it. I made a mention in that article about witch hunting. Right now, I see it happening left and write… Therefore, I believe I may have another article to write on the subject. I just want to watch a few more things before doing so.

BIG QUESTION - What else would you like to see me write about? I try to share my experiences so I can hopefully help other authors or keep them from making a mistake. I also share my stories and stories from other authors who have been kind enough to tell them. Together we can enjoy what we are all passionate about and have a better chance at making our dreams happen.

Erica Verillo publishes here and also on Medium to help folks find things in their niche to try or to help people step out of their comfort zone to make writing more than a hobby.

Her down-to-earth style is everything when you’re already nervous. I suggest you sign up for the newsletter and see what you can find.
